Thursday 5 October at Sharm El Sheik 13° Gianluca Genoni holds the new world free-diving record A -141 mt.
After months of training, Gianluca Genoni celebrates ten years of records marked by thrilling achievements – ten years that began in August 1996 against the splendid backdrop of Siracusa when he set his first record.
Gianluca, who has been focused for many months now on constant and arduous training in Rapallo (Italy), decided to conclude his training in the famous Egyptian locale, and this was without doubt a decision that rewarded his courage and professionalism.
On the eve of his departure for Sharm, Genoni was still hesitant about his chances of reaching a new world record, but the marine weather conditions and the brand-new ballast helped the athlete come extremely close to the record depth in the two weeks of training preceding the event.
The outside daytime temperature during these weeks rose beyond 38° C (100° F) and the water to approximately 29° C (84° F) without thermocline; these two conditions, along with the huge encouragement of his loyal team and all the friends of Mares, helped Gianluca to make the most of the phase leading up to the record depth, and then to reach it with enormous success on the morning of 5 October at 9:20 AM Italian time.
In fact, off the coast north of Ras Mohamed, the famous natural marine park in the Red Sea, on board a 28-meter caique, Gianluca successfully conquered his umpteenth record in limited variable ballast (descent with ballast and ascent by hand along a cable), reaching a depth of -141 meters (462 feet).
The dive lasted 3'08", with a descent time of 1'20". This time is quite fast considering the depth he achieved.
Sun, a calm sea, and the lack of wind all assisted the athlete from Busto Arstizio in his new athletic performance, but above all a record time, achieved thanks in part to the incredible hydrodynamic properties of the new sled.
All around Gianluca were boats carrying the Mares Team and its clients, all of them by now close friends of the spokesperson and star.
"A successful attempt would be a beautiful gift for everyone," Gianluca had said in the evenings leading up to the attempt, relaxing at the Valtur holiday village Sinai Grand Resort in Sharm with his friends.
But he gave the greatest gift precisely in order to celebrate 10 YEARS OF RECORDS along with all of his friends.
After the tributes and toasts, Gianluca continued to brighten each day along with the Mares team in the splendid landscape of the Egyptian sea, organizing a special "free-diving training course" for the clients in attendance, sharing his great passion with them, as always with the simplicity and professionalism that has always been his hallmark.
